Teaching Little Fingers to Sew
When I was seven years old, my grandmother taught me how to sew and crochet. I would spend the weekend with her learning how to stitch straight lines, trimming and pressing. 46 years later, my memories of our time together are very vivid.
I was so pleased when my niece, Becchi, asked me to teach her daughter to sew. Angeli, who is 7, spent the afternoon with me this past weekend, creating her first sewing project. We began with a patriotic tea towel (red and blue are her favorite colors) and coordinating fabric.
Angeli learned the basics of sewing and created an apron! She loves to be in the kitchen with her mother so her apron will plenty of use this summer.
Angeli announced she is ready for another project - she wants to make a sundress with butterflies on it. The sewing torch has been passed to the next generation. Perhaps one day you will see her at one our Sew and Sew Retreats!
